It is this terrible phenomenon that brings me to the story of Twitch. Left to fend for herself, along with her family of around 20-30 others, Twitch had to forage for food from garbage cans, sleep under an abandoned house, and never learned what it was like to be a part of a loving home. She and her siblings were picked up by the Houston SPCA and unfortunately some of her siblings were too feral to be able to be adoptable or ... (Read More)they never made it out from their terrible situation in the first place do to lack of food, disease, or other animals. From the SPCA Twitch and her brother Indy made their way to a home where they are being well taken care of. Twitch has been diagnosed with a slight neurological problem, but its specifics have not been figured out. She is unsteady on her back legs and cannot jump very high in order to get on beds or couches. She does better on carpets than on wood flooring but this is not a huge problem for her with some strategically placed rugs. Twitch is up to date on all vaccinations, Spayed, Microchipped, and loves nothing more than to cuddle and give kisses. Now what twitch truly needs is a house that is calm and a family that can give her the time, love, and affection that she so needs. She is very low maintained and is pretty well house trained. As long as she gets some outside time twice a day she does fine. Due to her troubled past, Twitch takes some time to warm up to new people and tends to hide while still getting used to them. But once she has warmed up to someone she loves to cuddle and watch TV. She also loves food - Go figure. Twitch is good with other dogs, cats, and other pet friends. She is good with all people, including men, women, and children that I have seen if she has become accustomed to them. She is a pretty low maintenance dog and doesn't require a ton of exercise, but does pretty well on walks although she does startle somewhat easily. 'Indy' It is no secret to true animal lovers that there are people in the world that do not care about these voiceless angels. It is this terrible phenomenon that brings me to the story of Indy. Left to fend for himself along with his family of around 20-30 others, Indy had to forage for food from garbage cans, sleep under an abandoned house, and never learned what it was like to be a part of a loving home. He and his siblings were picked up by the Houston SPCA and unfortunately some of his siblings were too feral to be able to be adoptable or ... (Read More)they never made it out from their terrible situation in the first place due to lack of food, disease, or other animals. From the SPCA, Indy and his sister Twitch made their way to a home where they are being well taken care of. Indy was diagnosed with and treated for Heartworm disease and is now almost heartworm free. Indy is up to date on all vaccinations, Neutered, Microchipped, and has his own kennel. Now what Indy truly needs is a house that is calm and a family that can give him the time, love, and affection that he so needs. He is still very scared of strange people and takes a good amount of time to warm up to new people, but once he bonds with someone, he is extremely loyal and does not want to leave their side. He is very interested in everything his bonded person is doing. Because of his past, he is still not completely accustomed to the normal goings on of a household and being in a family. He does well in the car, and is very quiet most of the time, (the only time he makes any noise is when his person comes home from work because he get so excited) Indy is a very lovable boy and can also be very playful, although he is not knowledgeable in the ways of typical dog play. (He mainly just likes to play wrestle.) He has just started learning to accept food treats from human hands and is very trainable if someone is willing to take the time to do it. He is great on walks and stays with his leader the entire time. He does not like to stray far from his person. He is good with other animals including other dogs but is not accustomed to children. He does not have an aggressive bone in his body but does still has issues that cause him to have some anxiety due to his background. He has never once tried to bite anyone that I know of. He is a grown boy, around 3-5 years old but is in very good health. He is in good body condition, muscle condition, good teeth and has a good amount of energy. Vincent has been through a lot in his short life. He was found outside a business as a tiny kitten. It appeared he had been attacked by a dog. Luckily, he was taken to a great vet. It is a miracle he survived all the damage done to him. He had a head injury with damage to the optic nerve, was in a coma for a week, completely blind for weeks and had a broken leg that has now fused, but may result in arthritis in later life. You can't tell anything is wrong with his eye sight during his normal day to day activities. However, if you get a feather toy out you will see that he can find it hard to follow. We also believe it makes him a little more cautious with change such as moving to a new home where he is unfamiliar with the surroundings. After all of that Vincent was adopted by a great family. Unfortunately, about 6mths later because of serious health problems with their baby they were forced to rehome their pets. So Vincent ended up back in rescue. He took the change really hardƒhe really missed his family. When Vincent got back to his foster home a little squirt of a kitten bonded with him and they really became buddies. I think the kitten was just what he needed to pull him out of the funk of losing his family. We have now found that Vincent really likes kittens and tends to take them under his wing. Meet Eve, who in her short 1 year life is already a miracle survivor. She appeared in a box at the front door of Pet Depot on Christmas Eve with small and large patches of fur missing on her back haunches near her tail. After eliminating flea hypersensitivity and food allergies, the veterinarian has determined that Eve sustained a very traumatic injury and that this fur will never grow back over the scarring. One can only imagine what happened escape from mauling by a dog or coyote, perhaps a close encounter with a cars fan belt. Doc said, It just means that she has less fur to shed! She is a short-haired brown tabby with a sweet, cherubic face and meow. She also has caramel-colored drops on her back, face, and paws as if shed gotten splashed in a candy factory. Eve is an outgoing and very people-sociable cat. She likes nothing better than to curl up into her foster companions lap while she is reading. Eve also likes to be right in the middle of things being up on the desk during bill paying and watching the computer screen. She also follows her foster around the house and likes to be picked up and cuddled. She would be a great companion for a retiree, but she is also quite content to sleep all day, play with her toys, or look out the window when left alone. Eve is frisky and playful because shes barely older than a kitten. Shes a little too playful for her fosters grumpy older cats to contend with, so she has been kept separated (for the food trial too). However, shes very anxious to be with them and waits patiently outside as she peeks under the door and rattles it to get into their room. (She is pretty good at opening doors that dont latch well!) She would probably do well with playful younger cats that are not alphas because she will defend herself quite sufficiently. She has not been around dogs or children in her foster home. Eve is a hearty eater and is not picky. Shes been eating mostly canned food with sprinkles of dry on top. She has an endearing quality of chirping sweetly instead of meowing as she anticipates her dinners being served. She can be enticed to do anything and go anywhere almost by rattling her dry food jar. If she thinks that she is going to be fed, she absolutely bounds up the stairs and crash-lands into her room. She has perfect litterbox habits. What a sweet, happy soul who deserves to have a second chance at a better life (than her beginnings) in a permanent home of her own! The dips finally got rid of the fungus but it resulted in a kitten who was scared to be held and lacked trust. She was put up for adoption but was just too scared. Her foster mom decided to keep her at her home to help her feel safe and loved. She has been there for 6 months. This is where she met Philippe. Chloe might not ever be a lap cat but she curls up with you at night and will follow you around the house. She is very playful, almost like a windup toy when she gets to playing. She deeply loves Philippe and constantly rubs her head against his for affection. She may be scared at first in a new home but will settle in quickly as long as she has her boyfriend Philippe. Philippe was rescued from a BARC raid where an individual had too many cats that were not cared for. His foster took him home immediately to see if he could be socialized and to insure that he was safe. He was scared to death! In the 10 months the foster has had Philippe he has come out of his shell. He is great with other cats and kittens, especially Chloe. They are very bonded and loving. Philippe also loves to sleep with you at night. He also LOVES those little furry mice toys. He is constantly playing with them and hiding them around the house. I swear he stores them away on purpose just so I will give him more. Before you know it he will have 20 of those things stashed somewhere! Both Chloe and Philippe are around 1 year old. Two days before Christmas, Carlie and her three little kittens were dumped at BARC, the city of Houston's animal shelter. They were immediately placed in foster care, but mom tested FIV positive. The vet said the kittens will test positive until about 6 months, and then probably will be negative but they would need to be retested at that time to know for sure. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, or FIV, is a disease that affects all felines, from lions to cheetahs to household cats. FIV belongs to the same viral family as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), but FIV is only contagious to cats, as HIV is only contagious to humans. FIV is transmitted mainly by direct cat bites. It is prevalent among cats that are involved in catfights and experience piercing wounds. Close contact between cats and even the sharing of food and water bowls or a litter box is not a common mode of infection. In some cases, FIV positive cats live long and happy lives with FIV negative cats in multi-cat households. However, there is always a risk of the infected cat transmitting the disease directly through biting.
